What's New in v0.38: Ship From Inside the Board

The shape of v0.37 was setup. The shape of v0.38 is shipping.

You can now commit your changes and open a pull request from inside Lanes. The board figures out whether your agent is still planning or already implementing, and updates the workflow status itself. Moving an issue to review is a single button now, not a drag. The loop from "agent finishes" to "PR up for review" stays in one window.

Commit, push, and open a PR, all from the board

Run an agent on an issue. Watch the diff appear. When it looks right, you can ship it without ever leaving Lanes.

The git diff view now has a commit composer and a Create PR action. Write a summary, write a description, push, and open a pull request, all from the same panel. The PR shows up in the issue's side panel right away with its number, title, and link, so the issue and its review live next to each other from now on.

This is the small story behind a bigger one. We don't want you tab-switching to GitHub to do the obvious thing. Lanes already knows what changed, what branch you're on, and what issue you're working. There's no reason to make you tell it twice in another window. So we don't.

Workflow status that tracks the work

Lanes now reads what mode an agent session is actually in and updates the issue's workflow status to match. No dropdowns, no manual moves.

When the CLI tells us (Claude Code's plan mode is the obvious example), an issue starts in Planning while the agent is figuring things out, then transitions to Implementation when it's writing code. The board reflects where the work is, not where you last remembered to drag it.

The same pass tidies up the bell icons. When a session stops needing your attention, the bell goes away. When it does need you, it shows up. We were getting stale indicators before, and the silence-when-everything's-fine model is the right one.

Other stability & enhancements

• Send to review is now a dedicated button instead of a drag, with the PR link, branch, and status packaged for you.
• Close on hover on project and issue tabs, so closing one is a single click.
• Hideable left issues tab for a quieter workspace when you want to focus on the board.
• Terminal display modes via a new sessionTerminalMode setting, from full firehose to quieter views.
• Stop sessions explicitly from the board, instead of waiting them out or killing the terminal.
• Quit confirmation when sessions are still running.
• Attachment box on issues for screenshots, logs, and supporting files.
• Bell hygiene. Issue tab bells clean up promptly when a session stops needing attention.
• CLI flags refactored to scope cleanly per folder, with regression tests added.
• Field pickers consolidated, dialog state lifted out of the global store.
• Repository Config is now Project Settings, with a refactored issue metadata display.
• Plus a roll-up of small fixes across the board view, side panel, and git diff.

What's next

Two things on the runway. First, integrations to wire Lanes into the rest of your stack, so the board reflects work happening elsewhere too. Second, the worktree startup and teardown scripts we promised in v0.37: custom commands that run automatically when a worktree is created or destroyed, so you stop manually running pnpm install and copying .env files every time you branch.

The goal stays the same. Lanes should be the place you start, finish, and revise a change, without ever switching windows.
